The other day AVG prompted me to update it. You have to go through the whole rigmarole of clicking in the right place to not buy the for-pay version, but that’s commendable of them, you really want people to pay for your software in the long run. Most of the people I deal with are cheap though, so I have to use what they use so that I can support it. So now I’ve got this newer, prettier version of AVG on my laptop and the whole system is constantly swapping. No other reason that I can see aside from spiking CPU usage from AVG processes. That’s the only reason people need newer, faster computers these days, to keep up with the software.

I also had to disable AVG’s link checking system because it was drastically slowing down my surfing experience. I’d prefer to have some kind of a network device analyze packets instead of putting virus software on my computers. The only time I really need it is when I download something suspicious. Maybe I’ll just turn it off until then…
