YouOS, MeOS, WeAllOS
December 21, 2007
My old man just sent me a link to YouOS, it’s a web-based operating system written in javascript. It’s pretty fun to play with but I think they need more operating-system type applications before I could call it useful. I think the beauty of real operating systems is that there are many multitudes of developers who compile applications for each of the operating systems out there like Linux/Mac/Windows so your happy application runs everywhere. It really doesn’t work unless you have that buy-in and the major flaw with this operating system is that you’re re-creating the wheel and now people need to write new applications. To get around that you need to be promoting something compatible like Xming or something that already exists, it just needs to be easier to set up than that kind of thing. Most of my users are running remote desktop pretty successfully why re-invent the wheel again?
